Refreshers!

We are very excited to offer refresher workshops for our fundamental classes! These workshops will help you in a few areas. The first is to take some time to assess where you are at. Taking several weeks off not only impacts your strength and flexibility but also your skin conditioning (do you miss your callouses?). It’s also a great time to review your moves to determine what 6 week fundamental session you would like to register for in July. You cannot register for a refresher unless you have completed that full session first. For example, if you were halfway through a particular session before our closure, you would want to register for the fundamental level below that. Kick start your training again and join us back at the studio with our refreshers!

The cost of our 90 minute refresher workshop is $30 +tax. Annual and Monthly membership holders receive 15% off! With government business regulations in place we are closely monitoring protocols as we open our doors. There will be 10 spots available in Pole classes and 5 spots in Aerial Hoop! We will be releasing refresher and workshop schedules for the month of June if you’ve missed out on week 1.

A few tips about Refreshers:

- Start conservatively! While we are all very excited to get back at it, we encourage you to take a conservative approach coming back, especially with week 1. Remember, a refresher workshop is ONE 90 minute workshop, not a full 6 week session, so it’s a relatively small commitment. It is a great time to get back to the studio, see how your body is feeling, and see where you’re at. This is not the time to work on that nemesis move that you’ve been having for the last 6 months before closure. If you register for a class that you may not be physically prepared for, your instructor cannot spend time reviewing the moves in the level below that so you have something to do. For example, if you register for Intermediate Hoop but are more at a Beginner Hoop level with where you’re at physically, she cannot spend time reviewing beginner moves for you as this takes away from other participants who have registered in the appropriate level. This means you may spend a lot of time standing around. To get the most out of your refreshers, start conservatively and build your way back up each week.
- Repeat! We will have several weeks of Refreshers before our first full session starts back in July. Our refresher classes are slightly more expensive than a regular aerial class because they are longer. If it’s possible for you, we encourage you to register for at least one refresher a week, treating it like a 6 week session (coming at least once a week). This gives your body time to adapt to where you are at preparing you for a full 6 week session in July. We enthusiastically encourage you to repeat the refreshers to set you up for success.
- Review - If you are an intermediate or advanced aerialist or poler, refreshers are a fantastic time to go back and review the curriculum of previous sessions. If you are in Intermediate 2 pole, when was the last time you reviewed your Beginner 1 or 2 curriculum? Not only is this great for your body (working on that push/pull), it’s also a lot of fun to go back and review everything you’ve learned up to this point. Going back and reviewing the curriculum can also be treated like additional conditioning, focusing on perfect lines and form.
- Safety First - We cannot stress enough how important it will be to train safely at the studio when you come back. Our instructors will not be able to spot you to keep the 6 feet distance; therefore, we ask that you make smart, conservative and mature training decisions. While you may think it is no big deal to come back and start where you were, there are many new components to consider now. The inability to spot, the hot weather (hello sweaty skin!), your de-conditioned skin, etc. There is no harm starting slow and building your way back up as opposed to coming in, becoming injured the first day you’re back, only to have several more weeks off. Putting safety at the very forefront shows respect not only for yourself, but for your instructor and other participants in class.
- Communicate - The best way to ensure your success is to communicate with your instructors. Let them know where you are at, ask questions and advice about where to register next, etc. As we all know, coming back to the studio will not be the same as before with new guidelines in place. However, this also means that new guidelines will be in place for moving up a level with the inability to spot. Having an open dialogue with your instructor about where you’re at, or suggestions of where to go next will help ensure your success.
- Have fun! - Many of us have had a break from our apparatus and all of us have had a break from the studio. While it may feel like a big decision of what refresher to take first, I promise you that the first time you come to the studio, you will be so happy to be there, you won’t really care what level you’re taking. The pressure to ‘get back at it’, may come a couple weeks later, if at all. The first time back will be the joy of being together, being in our space, and having fun again. Take the pressure off yourself for the first couple weeks, and enjoy dancing, moving, and slowly build from there.

I’m so truly excited to get back to being in classes with everyone and know our whole team feels the same. Can’t wait!!
