Looking Ahead - Goal Setting pt.1

The term ‘new normal’ has been thrown around a lot lately and hearing it and processing can be on two very different pages. While we don’t know when we can open yet, we can be certain things will be different moving forward. Whether it’s teaching at half capacity, adjusting what classes are offered, continuing to have classes over Zoom, anything at this point is speculation until we get more information but definitely worth thinking about as the province begins to reopen. Regardless of the new regulations, let’s discuss how we can move forward.

Your Goals
Nothing quite puts life into perspective like a pandemic. Let’s take a walk down memory lane and reflect on what your goals were before we closed… was it trying something new? Taking time for yourself? Preparing your first performance at our showcase? Working on the endless amounts of tricks? Increasing your strength and or flexibility? Staying on top of your mental health? Or any of the other infinite goals you may have had.

Do those goals seem more or less important now?

There are a couple things that could happen for you. First, the pause may give you some time to really reevaluate what your goals are. Perhaps the one trick you’ve been obsessing about accomplishing may not seem so worth it now. Perhaps your goals or priorities are shifting to be able to train and participate again with less focus on the outcome.

On the other hand, maybe the pause is giving you time to reflect that you are not living up to your potential and can do so much more. Perhaps this time is a reflection of wanting to get the most out of your training and you will tackle things with more focus and determination than before.

The next few blog posts are going to focus on how to look ahead in so much uncertainty, how to goal set, and meet yourself where you are at. Whether it’s pumping the breaks or pedal to the metal or anything in between, we’ll discuss ways to be realistic when looking ahead, and how we can support you.

For now, take a moment to think about where you were right before we closed, and how you feel now. This reflection will help as we look to define things in our next blog post.
Until then, take care of yourself,
-Brigitte
