The creative and emotional release provided by pole was also a huge thing I’ve missed. At first I didn’t really want to think about future routines or concepts, because it just made me feel so much more defeated and disappointed. But I know that one day I’ll be able to get back up there. So I turn on some music and let myself day dream about what kind of performance or competition piece I want to put together when I get the chance. I started making a list so I can keep all of my ideas organized and don’t forget anything that popped into my brain. Maybe you already know what kind of performance you want to do next. Now would be a great time to start working on your costume, or blocking out the music and maybe working on some of the floor work or dancing parts. Then when you do get the chance to put the whole thing together, you already have all of that work out of the way!
We all miss our friends and family right now, and with that comes our SPDS community and friends. When I first had to stop poling, I worried that I might lose some of my friendships or wouldn’t be able to be as close. This was simply not the case. While yes, pole and dance was the common thing that brought us together, it’s so much more that has made us all such close friends. If you miss your pals and the community, come out to some Zoom classes! We are also hosting weekly check ins that are a time to chat and catch up, no movement involved. Organize a smaller group zoom or Facetime chat if you want a more intimate conversation. I’ve found it really helpful to chat with people who are missing the studio as much as I am. I’ve also found that keeping in touch with these wonderful people makes me feel in touch with the community and even more excited to be able to get back when the time is right! I hope this was helpful in some way, even if just to know you aren’t the only one who misses SPDS.
Can’t wait to see you guys, hopefully soon!
